May 24, 2013 - How do soccer fans watch the game?

This will be investigated by researchers of the Leibniz Knowledge Media Research Center (KMRC) and the University of Tübingen.

A group of 61 fans of Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich will watch the final of the UEFA Champions League on May 25, 2013. Right now, a large test laboratory is being set up at the KMRC. For one group of participants, eye tracking data will be recorded during the game with portable SMI RED-m systems by SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI). Theses eye tracking devices will be placed on 21 laptops and, will record the eye movements of the fans unobtrusive and contact free, with scientific grade data quality.

Researchers expect to find out whether differences between the fan groups of both teams can already be revealed during real-time perception of the game or during later stages of cognitive processing, e.g. when asked to divide the game into tactical movements or when recalling specific scenes of the game.
